  • 1 large egg, at room temperature

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for browning)
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 12 Tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt or chopped toasted pecans (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add maple syrup and mix well.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla extract until combined. Gradually add dry ingredients until just mixed.
  4. Chill dough for at least one hour in the refrigerator.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Scoop dough onto sheets, spacing 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden.
  7. Cool on wire racks before icing.
  8. In a saucepan, melt 1/4 cup butter over medium heat until brown bits form.
  9. Pour butter into a bowl, whisk in powdered sugar, additional maple syrup, and milk until smooth.
  10. Dip or drizzle cookies with icing and sprinkle with flaky sea salt or pecans.
