Korean Apple Tea with Ginger and Cinnamon (Saegwa Cha) is a heartwarming drink that combines the natural sweetness of apples with the soothing warmth of ginger and cinnamon. This traditional remedy is perfect for cold days or whenever you need a comforting pick-me-up. Not only does it envelop you in cozy flavors, but it also packs numerous health benefits thanks to its antioxidant-rich ingredients. Whether enjoyed hot, chilled, or at room temperature, Saegwa Cha brings a nostalgic touch from my grandmother’s kitchen right into your home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs apples (Gala, Fuji, or McIntosh)
  • 10 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 inches fresh ginger
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tsp black peppercorns

Instructions

  1. Wash and quarter the apples without peeling.
  2. For Instant Pot: Combine apples, sliced ginger, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, peppercorns, and water. Lock lid and cook on high pressure for 18 minutes. Manually release steam.
  3. For stovetop: In a stock pot, combine all ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower heat and simmer for about 30 minutes until apples are soft.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing the apples to release juices.
  5. Allow tea to cool before serving warm or chilled.
