  • 1 pound Italian sausage (ground)
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 14 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 14 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy-bottom pot, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, ground beef, and diced onion. Cook until browned and onions are translucent (about 8 minutes). Stir in minced garlic for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Mix in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and fennel seeds. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving hot.
