  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp almond extract
  • 2 tsp cherry extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cream of tartar
  • 4 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1/3 cup + 12 tbsp maraschino cherry juice
  • 45 cups powdered sugar for icing
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in almond and cherry extracts.
  3. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar; gradually add to wet mixture until just combined.
  4. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart; bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  5. For icing, mix melted butter with reserved cherry juice; add extracts and gradually incorporate powdered sugar to desired consistency.
  6. Drizzle or spread icing over cooled cookies and top with slivered almonds.
